Twi or Asante Twi, is a member of the Kwa sub-group of Niger-Congo languages. It is spoken by about 6 to 9 million Ashanti people as a first language and second language. Twi is a common name for two former literary dialects of the Akan language, Asante and Akuapem, which are mutually intelligible.
